Quick Answer

Short answer: Door-to-door shipping picks up and delivers your car at your chosen addresses, or as close as a large truck can safely get. It saves time and handling, and it's the standard service at most companies today. The trade-offs are a slightly higher price than terminal service on some routes and pickup windows rather than exact times.

Pros

  • No trips to a terminal at either end
  • Less handling, since the car goes straight from you to the truck
  • Flexible meeting points if your street can't fit a carrier
  • Works for homes, offices, dealerships and campuses

Cons

  • Can cost a little more than terminal-to-terminal on some routes
  • Pickup and delivery come with windows, not exact times, because of weather and traffic
  • Very remote addresses may need a nearby meeting point

How Door-to-Door Shipping Works

With door-to-door service, the driver comes as close to your address as is safe and legal. Car carriers are up to about 80 feet long, so on narrow streets, cul-de-sacs or gated communities, the driver may ask to meet at a nearby parking lot, school or shopping center. That's still door-to-door — just the closest spot the truck can reach.

The driver usually calls a day ahead and again a few hours before arrival.

Door-to-Door vs. Terminal-to-Terminal

Door-to-door

Most convenient; no trips to a storage lot. It's the standard for most shipments.

Terminal-to-terminal

You drop off and pick up at a storage yard. It can help when you can't be home, or in remote areas, but terminals can charge storage fees and add time.

Making Door-to-Door Delivery Smooth

  • Tell us about narrow streets, low trees or HOA rules at booking.
  • Have a backup contact who can receive the car if you're delayed.
  • Keep your phone on in the delivery window.
  • Inspect the car in good light before signing the Bill of Lading.

Quick Answers

Does door-to-door cost more?

No. Door-to-door is ShipMyCar US's standard service and is included in your quote.

What if a truck can't reach my street?

The driver will arrange a nearby meeting spot, such as a parking lot, where it's safe to load or unload.

Can someone else receive the car for me?

Yes. Give us their name and number, and make sure they inspect the car before signing.
