Winter in Northern Nevada: While Las Vegas rarely sees significant winter weather, the Reno area and northern Nevada highways — particularly I-80 through the Truckee Meadows and the Sierra Nevada approaches — can close during major winter storms. Bill of Lading — Your Protection Document: The Bill of Lading (BOL) is the legal record of your vehicle's condition before and after transport. At pickup, you and the driver document all existing damage. At delivery, the same inspection confirms condition. Any damage noted at delivery that was not on the pre-transport BOL is the carrier's liability and triggers an insurance claim. Always complete a thorough inspection at both ends — do not sign an incomplete or blank BOL.

What Cargo Insurance Covers: Physical damage to your vehicle caused by transport — collision, loading/unloading accidents, weather damage (on enclosed carriers), and tie-down strap damage. It covers the vehicle itself, not contents.

What Cargo Insurance Does NOT Cover: Personal belongings inside the vehicle (remove everything before pickup), pre-existing mechanical failures unrelated to transport, cosmetic damage below the deductible threshold, and vehicles misrepresented as operational when they are not.

Document Existing Condition: Wash your vehicle 24–48 hours before pickup to create a clean, photographable baseline. Photograph all four sides, both bumpers, the roof, door sills, and any pre-existing scratches, dings, or damage. Date-stamp the photos. These images are your evidence if any condition dispute arises at delivery.

Remove All Personal Items: Carrier cargo insurance does not cover personal belongings inside the vehicle. Remove everything from the cabin, trunk, glove box, center console, seat pockets, and under seats. Take out electronics, chargers, documents, car seats, spare clothes, cleaning products, and any valuables. Loose items shift during transport and can cause interior damage.

Fuel Level: Leave no more than one-quarter tank of fuel (approximately 2–3 gallons). This reduces the vehicle's weight on the carrier and is standard industry protocol. Do not fill the tank before pickup.

Check Battery and Tires: Ensure your battery holds a full charge and all four tires are inflated to manufacturer specifications. Your vehicle must be able to drive onto and off the carrier under its own power. A dead battery at your Nevada pickup location creates delays for both you and the driver.

Disable or Deactivate Aftermarket Alarms: If your car has an aftermarket alarm system, deactivate it before pickup. An alarm that cannot be silenced while the vehicle is on a carrier causes significant disruption for the driver and other vehicles on the load.

Remove Exterior Accessories: Retract power antennas. Remove or stow roof racks, bike carriers, ski boxes, and any accessories that add height or width beyond normal vehicle dimensions. Multi-level open carriers have limited clearance.

The driver needs to safely operate your vehicle to load and unload it.
