Round-Trip Snowbird Car Shipping
Planning to spend the winter in Florida, Arizona or Texas and come home in spring? Book both shipments together — your fall pickup and your spring return — instead of arranging each one separately.
Quick Answer
Short answer: round-trip snowbird shipping means booking the fall trip south and the spring trip home together. It typically saves 5–10% on the combined rate, and your return is scheduled months before the April rush. A target return month is enough to book.

Snowbirds ship the same car on the same corridor twice a year: south in the fall, north in the spring. Round-trip booking treats those as one plan instead of two separate scrambles. You tell us your fall pickup date and roughly when you'll head home, and both legs are quoted and scheduled together.
The practical upside is the calendar. October and November going south, and April coming back, are the busiest weeks of the year on snowbird lanes — a round-trip booking has your return on our books months before the spring rush. The financial upside is real too: round-trip bookings typically qualify for 5–10% off the combined rate of the two legs.
Below: how round-trip booking works, what it typically costs on the main corridors, what happens if your return date moves, and when booking one way makes more sense.
How Round-Trip Booking Works
Quote both legs together
Give us both addresses, your fall pickup date and a target return month. You get one quote covering the trip south and the trip home.
Ship south in the fall
The southbound leg is scheduled like any shipment: carrier assigned, pickup window confirmed, inspection at pickup, delivery at your winter home.
Your return is on the books
The northbound leg is held with a target window. You don't need an exact date in October.
Confirm the spring date
A few weeks before you want the car picked up, confirm the exact day. We assign the carrier and send you the pickup window and driver contact.
Ship home
Pickup inspection at your winter home, delivery and inspection back north. Someone you designate can handle either end.
What Round-Trip Booking Typically Costs
The round-trip discount is typically 5–10% off the combined rate of both legs. It isn't identical on every corridor — it depends on carrier supply on your lane — so the exact figure is in your quote. Here's what that looks like on common corridors for a standard sedan on open transport:
| Corridor | Southbound | Northbound | Both legs | With 5–10% off |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| New York ↔ Florida | $750–$1,150 | $750–$1,150 | $1,500–$2,300 | $1,350–$2,190 |
| New Jersey ↔ Florida | $800–$1,250 | $750–$1,200 | $1,550–$2,450 | $1,400–$2,330 |
| Pennsylvania ↔ Florida | $800–$1,300 | $800–$1,350 | $1,600–$2,650 | $1,440–$2,520 |
| Massachusetts ↔ Florida | $850–$1,350 | $850–$1,350 | $1,700–$2,700 | $1,530–$2,570 |
| Ohio ↔ Florida | $650–$1,000 | $800–$1,200 | $1,450–$2,200 | $1,310–$2,090 |
| Michigan ↔ Florida | $850–$1,350 | $800–$1,300 | $1,650–$2,650 | $1,490–$2,520 |
| Illinois ↔ Florida | $900–$1,400 | $800–$1,300 | $1,700–$2,700 | $1,530–$2,570 |
| Michigan ↔ Arizona | $1,000–$1,550 | $850–$1,350 | $1,850–$2,900 | $1,670–$2,760 |
| Minnesota ↔ Texas | $900–$1,400 | $850–$1,350 | $1,750–$2,750 | $1,580–$2,610 |
Ranges run from off-peak at the low end to peak weeks at the high end. SUVs and pickups add 15–30% to each leg; enclosed transport adds 40–60%.
A Typical Round-Trip Calendar
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| Early September | Request a round-trip quote with your fall date and target return month |
| Late October | Car picked up at your northern home; you fly south a day or two later |
| Early November | Car delivered to your winter address |
| Mid-March | Confirm the exact return pickup date |
| Mid-April | Car picked up at your winter home |
| Late April | Car delivered back north |
If Your Return Date Changes
Plans change — a graduation, a doctor's appointment, a longer stay. A round-trip booking doesn't lock you into a date you can't move:
- Before the return carrier is assigned: changing the date is a phone call. Tell us as early as you can.
- After the carrier is assigned: changes depend on the carrier's schedule. A few days' notice usually works; a same-week change may mean a different carrier and pickup window.
- Going somewhere else: if the car is heading to a different address than it came from, tell us — the return leg is re-quoted for the new address.
- Not coming back this year: if you decide to keep the car south, let us know and we'll cancel the return leg.
When One-Way Makes More Sense
You're relocating for good
If the move south is permanent, a one-way shipment is all you need.
You might sell the car down south
If there's a real chance the car won't come back, book one way and add the return later if you need it.
You'll drive one direction
Some snowbirds drive down in the fall for the scenery and ship home in spring. Book the leg you need.
Your summer address is undecided
If the car may go somewhere other than your northern home, quote the return separately once you know the address.
